So I have decided I am pretty much failing at keeping up with this whole ‘post weekly’ thing. Its been more like post monthly randomly. and looking back I have no idea what I even do during the day that has me so behind on posting pictures and what-not. oh, thats right, absolutely nothing.
But here is a re-cap of my summer.
May 21: My brother Brandon’s 10th Birthday. My family and I went to Lego Land in Ulm Germany for the day. My Brother Loves Legos. He did the Lego London Bridge in 10 hrs. Its for ages 16+ and people online say it took them 10-15 hours to complete. He was 9 when he completely it in 10. So I’d say he did pretty good.
May 28: Spent the day in Salzbourg, France.
June 2-5: Weekend in Paris. Paris is about a 6 hour drive from Stuttgart. We arrived Thursday night, saw the Eiffel Tower lit up. Friday and Saturday were sight-seeing days and Sunday morning my mom and I went shopping. While we were there, we learned to navigate the Paris metro system and how to heckel the street vendors at the Eiffel Tower. My brother Robert was very proud of his purchase. an item they ‘say’ is 20 Euro he got for 7.20 simply because he asked 8 and all we had was 7.20 successful nonetheless.
June 11: My family went to Heidleberg castle. One of the main castle ‘to see’ in Germany. We saw the castle, walked around the city center, and had dinner at one of our favorite places; Pizza Hut. (American food is so much easier with picky brothers)
June 12: We went to Sea Life Aquarium and Minau Island at the Germany Switzerland border. (Bondensee, Lake Konstanze) Minau Island is a Island with amny lovely flowers and cute Castle and we are pretty sure the family was at the castle while we were there, because the flag was flying.
June 13: Visited Rhine Falls on the Rhine river. Huge waterfalls, where we took a boat out to a section of rock in the middle of them with an observation deck. It was a rainy and wet day.
June 23: My uncle was in Germany for a business trip and he visited us and we took a trip to the top of the Stuttgart Tv needle. After this summer, I have seen so many city skylines, they are all starting to look the same.
June 25-26: My mom and I took our own little trip to Salzburg, Austria. Went to the fortrees, again with the city skyline, walked around town and took a Sound of Music tour, with scenes where the movie was shot and also things pertaining to the real Vonn Trapp Family. They also corrected some of the movie mistakes and told us the true story. Like- the did NOT hike the Mountains from Austria to Switzerland because those mountains border Germany. They would have walked right into the Nazis that they were running from. Instead they took a train to Switzerland and into Paris and flew to London then the US. Did you know? The youngest son of Maria is still alive and living in Vermont where the house they escaped to still is. Pretty cool. Trip to Vermont will happen, sometime.
July 2: Munich, Germany. Just a bunch of sight-seeing and some more city skylines. Oh! and the Vegan fest! That was, well, ..cool… haha
July 3: In Bovaria. Schwanhau, Germany. Saw Neuschwanstein castle. Its the castle the Disney castle was modeled after. It is also incomplete. The King building it was diagnosised as being ‘mentaly insane’ this made him unqualified for the throne and construction had to stop. We also toured the castle the King grew up in and we all took tobagan rides.
July 8-10: My dad had a business trip to Piestiny, Slovakia. For the weekend my mom, brothers and I drove to Slovakia. Saturday and Sunday we drove to Vienna, Austria and spent the days there. Some sight-seeing and city skylines, including The Music House. The Music House was very cool, kinda like a music-science museum but pretty interactive. Learned about The Shepard Scale try and notate this! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ev9hrqkhWsM I also just ‘had’ to take the towels from the hotel we stayed at. They were just too cute! Little embosed Treble Clefs on them.
July 11: Traveling back from Slovakia we stopped a Devin’s castle in Brataslava, Slovakia. One of the coolest castle ruins I’ve seen. It was right on the River that divided it from Austria and Hungary. Built on a slight hill. I just thought it was really cool.
July 16: Took a Castle drive around the Black Forest.
July 17: Drove to a Castle and Glass Blowing Factory. The glass blowing factory was definately the coolest. We each made two vases each. One for us, and one for family back in the states.

Some more of my favorite Snapshots of Strasbourg, France (May 28)
Strasbourg, France (May 28)
As we arrived in Strasbourg, we first, found a parking place, then we had to figure out how to pay for parking. Which was difficult, being the we live in Germany, but none of us Really Know German, and we were visiting France, and we Know NO French. Luckily my dad found someone who knew German and my dad was able to catch on to enough numbers to understand when parking was free.
In Strasbourg we started off going to Notre Dame Cathedral. It. Was. Beautiful. and all made of stone. Amazing how detailed this stone was and how old the stone work is. We then took a ‘short’ 15 minute stroll up 330 steps to the viewing area. You could see all around the town of Strasbourg including La Petite France. The view of the roof-tops was amazing and being able to see church steeples in the distance. The only point higher than us was the bell tower of the Cathedral. After our decent back to ground level we went inside the Cathedral to see the Astronomical clock.
Everyday at Noon, there is a 30min show. The clock strikes noon and it beigns the show by explaining all the aspects of the clock and all the symbolism built into it. At 12:30 all the clock comes to life. The 12 Disciples cycle through and Jesus blesses each one of them. As this happens, on the level below a skeleton, symbolizing death, hits a bell with a bone, as a child, teen, adult and old man pass before him symbolizing the different stages of life. Before the complete cycle is over a rooster crows 3 times, just as when Jesus was betrayed 3 times by Judas.
We packed lunch for the day and went back to the car to eat it. After lunch, we walked to La Petie France, it was just a cute little town with little shops and bakeries. Later in the afternoon we went through the Decortive Arts Museum at the Palace Rohan. (Ballroom picture) After that we took a boat ride down the Ill River, which flows into the Rhine. We got a tour of all of Strasbourg, and we were able to hear and see all the history of Strasbourg. We ended our time in Strasbourg with dinner at a pizza place.
Documenting my last few days in Hattiesburg, and the states in general.
Thursday afternoon the cool kids and I shared a lovely ‘last supper’ together at Applebees where we had an…awkward waitress. She wasnt bad, no. Just awkward. We had everything from stale chips, to wrong noodles in our pasta, but she was a trooper and we ate well. I then went to the CD release concert for The Salty Sea which was a great time.
I ended the night sleeping in the Learning Center of CP with the cool kids. oh what a treat that was. haha!
Friday was packing day…i probably should have started on the a few days…maybe weeks before. Im not entirely sure how all that stuff was in my dorm room, and Im still amazed it made all into my car. I think my car might possibly be like Marry Poppins’ bag.
Group shot before everyone left for Summer 2011.
Said the last good byes for the summer, only hellos from then on.
Well, Im gonna try out this Tumblr thing as a way to keep track of my summer, which I am spending in Germany. I am pretty good at stumbling and tumbling in general, so we’ll see how Tumblr goes.
No, Im not studying abroad, or working, my family lives here. No, my parents are not in the military, or missionaries. my dad is a mechanical engineer and hes doing this program thing where we move international for 3(ish) years.
In the time that I spend in Germany I hope to actually keep this thing going so people who care can see what im up to and I can remeber what I have done, in the case that I do tumble again, and happen to get knocked unconscience and froget what I have done.
